How to Order Coffee in Japan

No menu? No English? No problem.

Here's how ordering actually works.

How to Order Coffee in Japan

At a Specialty Bar

Most specialty counters will show a chalkboard or card listing today's beans by origin and process. It's completely normal to ask the barista to recommend one — in fact, they often prefer it.

At a Kissaten

Kissaten menus are usually simpler: blend coffee (ブレンド), American-style coffee (アメリカン), and often a set with toast (モーニングセット) before 11am. Pointing at the menu works fine.
